Extreme Global Poverty means that a person makes $1.25 or less per day (the equivalent of purchasing power of $1.25/day in the US).
In 1981, 52% of the World was living in Extreme Poverty, in 2005 only 26%, and now would be even less than 20%!! That is under one-billion people... was 1.4 billion just a few years ago (with a smaller world-wide population.
Exceptions are places like North Korea, or places of war.
When you are a grandparent and Extreme Global Poverty is eradicated, and your grandchild asks you how you were involved what will you say? You don't want to say, "well, I intended."
